Thank you for all of your kind comments on my One Room Challenge plans last week! It’s always nice to hear words of encouragement from so many folks, many of whom are taking on the challenge themselves! I look forward to providing another update on Thursday – I’ve actually made quite a bit of progress in a short period of time. A week ago, I still had not even considered doing it, let alone knowing what room I would “finish!.”
Anyway, I realized in pulling together my decorative scheme for “Project Vestibule” that I am again and again drawn to the combination of deep blue and brass (or gold). There’s just something so bold, yet solid and classic, about the combination. It’s the ultimate in warm/cool, metallic/matte contrast, resulting in a zen-like balance. They complete each other. I’ve used it before, and I will definitely be using it again (more to come on that in a future ORC post!).
In my son Eamon’s nursery, painted Benjamin Moore Newburyport Blue, I used these starburst sconces in brass from Robert Abbey. They just seem to burst off the wall in a patinated explosion of metallic goodness (plus, some alabaster shade goodness, too 🙂 ).
The vintage federal-style gilded girandole mirror hanging above the mantel in my living room pretty much makes the whole space, in my opinion. Not brass, I know, but still the same impact.
Here are some other fabulous rooms, vignettes and things that use blue and brass to marvelous effect.
