I’m sitting here scratching my head, trying to figure out how it’s possible that I haven’t already shared this find!
Stout’s ‘Cardinal’ is a vinyl fabric. In a sea of vinyl, Cardinal stands out because instead of mimicking a type of leather, it more closely resembles a linen textile. Its matte sheen and subtle woven texture make it a perfect choice when you want the durability, wipe-ability and stain resistance that faux leathers provide, but the look of a woven textile. Cardinal is the best both worlds.
I have used Cardinal on counter stools and dining chairs for client projects, as well as on the seat of the banquette in what we call the Homework Nook in my kitchen (presently the Homeschool Nook).
I really wanted it to be cozy and inviting – kind of like a big sofa – but I also wanted my boys to be able to have snacks and drinks there without worrying about the whole giant custom cushion getting ruined by a bad spill. [FYI – the pillows are stain treated, and have thus far been completely fine – but if a pillow gets trashed, the financial hit is much less!]
And just to prove that sometimes designers completely give up too…I allowed this to happen during quarantine…
Cardinal would also be great on ottomans! But I think the real sweet spot is the kitchen and dining room.
Lots of colors, and it’s under $40/yard!
